{"id":27029,"date":"2025-09-12T01:57:44","date_gmt":"2025-09-12T01:57:44","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/opportunitiesforyouth.org\/?p=27029"},"modified":"2025-09-12T01:57:44","modified_gmt":"2025-09-12T01:57:44","slug":"presidents-scholarship-2019-20-at-the-imperial-college-londonfully-funded","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/opportunitiesconnect.com\/?p=27029","title":{"rendered":"President\u2019s Scholarship 2026-27 at The Imperial College London(Fully-funded)"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"row wysiwyg\">\n<h2>Overview<\/h2>\n<p>If you are a high performing undergraduate or Master&#8217;s student and have a strong desire to undertake a PhD programme at a world-class research institution,\u00a0a President&#8217;s PhD Scholarship could provide you with the outstanding opportunity\u00a0to receive full funding for tuition fees and a generous stipend for a 3.5 year PhD place at Imperial College London.<\/p>\n<p>The President\u2019s PhD Scholarships\u00a0allow students to\u00a0undertake a research project of their choosing with the support of an excellent supervisor, alongside cohort-building opportunities with other President&#8217;s PhD Scholars.<\/p>\n<div class=\"well minimal\">\n<h3>Meet our scholars<\/h3>\n<p>Read\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.imperial.ac.uk\/admin-services\/early-career-researcher-institute\/learning-and-development\/phd-scholars\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">stories of Imperial students<\/a>\u00a0who have received a President&#8217;s PhD Scholarship.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<hr \/>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"row wysiwyg\">\n<h2><a id=\"how-much\"><\/a>What\u00a0the\u00a0scholarship\u00a0covers<\/h2>\n<p>Each of the 50 scholarships available provides the following support during the 3.5 years of study:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Full funding for tuition fees<\/li>\n<li>A stipend of \u00a326,500\u00a0(2026-27 rate)<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>per annum to assist with living costs<\/li>\n<li>A consumables fund of \u00a32,000 per annum for the first 3 years of study<\/li>\n<li>A\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.imperial.ac.uk\/admin-services\/early-career-researcher-institute\/learning-and-development\/phd-scholars\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">programme of bespoke opportunities\u00a0and events\u00a0<\/a>delivered by the Early Career Researcher Institute (ECRI)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>You will also have access to the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.imperial.ac.uk\/study\/student-life\/support\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">full range of support\u00a0<\/a>available to postgraduates at Imperial, including tailored support for disabled and international students, and the wider Early Career Researcher Institute\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.imperial.ac.uk\/early-career-researcher-institute\/learning-and-development\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Learning and development\u00a0<\/a>courses.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"row wysiwyg\">\n<h2><a id=\"eligibility\"><\/a>Check if you&#8217;re eligible<\/h2>\n<p>This competitive scheme has higher than usual eligibility requirements, attracting candidates that show excellent academic performance and promising research potential.<\/p>\n<p>We accept applications from talented candidates from Imperial College London, the UK and worldwide. There are no restrictions on nationality.<\/p>\n<p>The scholarship applies to both full- and part-time study.<\/p>\n<p>We encourage applications from people from all backgrounds, as we recognise that diversity not only benefits Imperial but also helps the sector to better represent the communities that we serve.<\/p>\n<h2><strong>Academic\u00a0criteria<\/strong><\/h2>\n<ol>\n<li>Candidates\u00a0must be in receipt of, or due to receive, a\u00a0<strong>first class or equivalent<\/strong>\u00a0in an undergraduate or integrated Masters degree;\u00a0or if this has not been achieved<\/li>\n<li>Candidates must be in receipt of (or where this has yet to be received be able to provide evidence of high performance that will lead to) a distinction in a standalone Master\u2019s qualification.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>This allows candidates who have demonstrated excellence at Master&#8217;s level, but not achieved a first class undergraduate degree, to be able to apply to the scheme.<\/p>\n<p>Candidates with only a single undergraduate degree or integrated Master\u2019s must still must be in receipt of, or due to receive, a first class or equivalent.<\/p>\n<p>International candidates should check with the relevant\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.imperial.ac.uk\/study\/apply\/contact\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Admissions team<\/a>\u00a0that their grades meet the requirements of the scheme.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Department Special Case<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Applicants that have not met the advertised eligibility criteria for the scheme may be selected by their department as a special case if there are extenuating circumstances around why the grades were not acquired, but they are otherwise of the calibre required for the scholarship (e.g. high marks in research project modules; evidence of high performance on research placements). Candidates that want to identify themselves for this should contact their proposed department directly before applying.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Alternate Pathways<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>At Imperial we are committed to attracting, nurturing and championing the best local, national and global talent by providing equality of opportunity and removing barriers. \u00a0Candidates with non-traditional academic and\/or career pathways who show strong research potential are encouraged to apply for this scholarship.<\/p>\n<h3>Other criteria<\/h3>\n<ol>\n<li>Applications are accepted from talented candidates from Imperial College London, the UK and worldwide. There are no restrictions on nationality, although some departments may be unable to support international candidates.<\/li>\n<li>The scheme is only open to new PhD applications. Please review the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.imperial.ac.uk\/study\/fees-and-funding\/postgraduate-doctoral\/grants-scholarships\/presidents-phd\/supervisors\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">President&#8217;s PhD Scholarships &#8211; Unavailable Supervisors\u00a0page<\/a>\u00a0for more information.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3>Application process<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>There isn&#8217;t specific scholarship application form.<\/li>\n<li>You should submit your application for admission to study at Imperial through our\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.imperial.ac.uk\/study\/apply\/postgraduate-doctoral\/application-process\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">online admissions system<\/a>\u00a0and your department will put you forward for the scholarship based on academic merit and potential.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Scholarship-specific instructions for the admissions process are below; you must also meet any additional application requirements stated by your department of choice.<\/p>\n<h4>Additional\u00a0admissions instructions<\/h4>\n<ol>\n<li>For the 2026\u201327 academic year, the earliest start date for funded places is 1 August 2026, the latest start date is 1 November 2026.<\/li>\n<li>Within \u2018Supporting documents\u2019, your\u00a0<strong>personal statement<\/strong>\u00a0should be a 2-page document structured as detailed below:\n<ol>\n<li>the first page should be a personal statement (motivations for applying to Imperial and the scholarship, and any other supporting information not included elsewhere on the form that you feel will enhance your application)<\/li>\n<li>the second page should be your research proposal. You may submit updated versions of this statement if required following application submission if your department shortlists you for the scholarship. You are encouraged to write in the first person.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<\/li>\n<li>The\u00a0<strong>research proposal\u00a0<\/strong>option under \u2018Supporting documents\u2019 should be used to provide a more detailed document if your department requires it.<\/li>\n<li>When prompted for the names of\u00a0<strong>two academic referees<\/strong>, these should be people who can provide an academic reference in support of your application (e.g. your personal tutor or your thesis supervisor). You should not include your proposed PhD supervisor. You are encouraged to share\u00a0<a title=\"this guidance\" href=\"https:\/\/www.mrc-cbu.cam.ac.uk\/documents\/equality\/HHMI_WriteReference.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">this guidance<\/a>\u00a0with your two referees, noting, in particular, the recommendation to use \u2018they\/them\u2019 language (rather than gender pronouns).<\/li>\n<li>To be considered for the President&#8217;s PhD Scholarship scheme,\u00a0you must select this option in the funding section of the additional questions tab within the online application form.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<hr \/>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"row wysiwyg\">\n<h2><a id=\"review-and-selection\"><\/a>Review and selection<\/h2>\n<p><strong>50 scholarship places are available. Applications will be reviewed by a two-stage process:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Candidates meeting or predicted to meet the eligibility criteria will be reviewed by the Department to which they have applied. Departments will select a shortlist of candidates to present to the College Selection Panel for consideration.<\/li>\n<li>The final decision will be made by the College Selection Panel. The members of the panel are the Vice-Provost (Research), the Director of the Graduate School, and the Faculty Vice-Deans for Research. Imperial recognises excellence in all our Faculties and as such allows some offers to be made at Faculty level:\n<ol>\n<li>A Faculty allocation stage will\u00a0score and rank candidates in Departmental shortlists, making initial offers to the most promising candidates. Faculty Vice Deans present these candidates with justification for offers at the\u00a0College Selection Panel.<\/li>\n<li>The College Selection Panel makes additional offers from a ring-fenced strategic allocation for Alternate Pathways candidates.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<h3>Assessment criteria<\/h3>\n<p>Candidates are assessed by the Faculties and College Selection Panel against the following criteria:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li><strong>Academic excellence<\/strong>\u00a0\u2013 as demonstrated by:\n<ol>\n<li>past academic results<\/li>\n<li>transcripts<\/li>\n<li>relative class position<\/li>\n<li>awards<\/li>\n<li>distinctions<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<\/li>\n<li><strong>Research potential<\/strong>\u00a0\u2013 as demonstrated by:\n<ol>\n<li>the candidate\u2019s research experience to date<\/li>\n<li>their interest in discovery<\/li>\n<li>the research plan and its potential contribution as described in their research proposal<\/li>\n<li>the departmental statement, which also reflects on performance at interview<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>Successful candidates will receive written confirmation of their scholarship.\u00a0Any offer of a PhD place will be conditional on the candidate receiving the predicted qualifications.<\/p>\n<p>Applicants not selected for the scholarship will automatically be considered for\u00a0a standard PhD.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"row wysiwyg\">\n<h2><a id=\"outcome\"><\/a>When you&#8217;ll hear<\/h2>\n<p>Successful candidates will receive written confirmation of their scholarship.
