The vision of UNIDIR is a stable and more secure world in which States and people are protected from threats of arms-related violence. The role of UNIDIR is to support Member States, the UN and policy and research communities in advancing ideas and actions that contribute to a more sustainable and peaceful world. UNIDIR is based in the Palais des Nations, Geneva.<\/p>\n<p>UNIDIR\u2019s\u00a0<a title=\"\" href=\"https:\/\/unidir.org\/programmes\/security-and-technology.\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Security and Technology Programme<\/a>\u00a0seeks to build knowledge and awareness on the international security implications and risks of specific technological innovations and convenes stakeholders to explore ideas and develop new thinking on ways to address them.<\/p>\n<p><strong>The Security and Technology Programme is seeking two Graduate Professionals, one for the\u00a0<a title=\"\" href=\"https:\/\/unidir.org\/work\/ai-autonomy\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Autonomy<\/a>\u00a0workstream and one for the\u00a0<a title=\"\" href=\"https:\/\/unidir.org\/work\/science-tech-innovation\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Science, Technology and Innovation<\/a>\u00a0workstream. The Graduate Professionals will assist with the coordination and implementation of initiatives and activities of their respective workstream.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>This position may be performed remotely or from our office in Palais des Nations, Geneva, Switzerland; however, on-site availability is strongly preferred for the AI and Autonomy workstream and may be a factor in the selection process. Costs and arrangements for travel, visas, accommodation, insurance and living expenses are the responsibility of the Graduate Professional or any relevant sponsoring institutions, should the Graduate Professional be in-person in Geneva.<\/p>\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Responsibilities<\/strong><\/h4>\n<p>Within UNIDIR\u2019s Security and Technology Programme, the Graduate Professionals shall perform the following duties under the supervision of the designated reporting officer(s):<\/p>\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Assists in the development, delivery and dissemination of research outputs related to the work of either the AI and Autonomy workstream or the Science, Technology and Innovation workstream of the programme;<\/li>\n<li>Assists in organizing meetings, seminars and workshops;<\/li>\n<li>Drafts official documents and other materials related to the work of the programme;<\/li>\n<li>Assists in outreach and partnership activities with UNIDIR interlocutors;<\/li>\n<li>Attends conferences and meetings, and provides verbal and written briefings to colleagues;<\/li>\n<li>Contributes to day-to-day tasks, including administrative, communication and coordination matters;<\/li>\n<li>Performs other duties as requested by the supervisor.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Key skills and interests<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Research and analytical skills;<\/li>\n<li>Writing and editing skills;<\/li>\n<li>Project management and time management skills;<\/li>\n<li>Ability to synthesize information into concise, high-quality written products;<\/li>\n<li>Organization and coordination;<\/li>\n<li>Interpersonal, teamwork and communication (written and oral) skills;<\/li>\n<li>Proficiency with Microsoft Office tools (in particular Word, Excel and PowerPoint);<\/li>\n<li>Should have an interest in international peace and security, disarmament and the work of the UN.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Competencies<\/strong><\/h4>\n<p>The Graduate Professional is to demonstrate the core values of the UN: Professionalism, integrity and respect for diversity.<\/p>\n<p>In addition, in this role, the Graduate Professional will demonstrate the following competences:<\/p>\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Communication:<\/strong>\u00a0Identifies the information needs of target audiences and tailors communication accordingly, drafts clearly and concisely, good written and oral language skills, demonstrates openness in sharing information and keeping people informed.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Teamwork<\/strong>: Good interpersonal skills, ability to work collaboratively with colleagues from different national and cultural backgrounds to achieve organizational goals.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Planning and organizing:<\/strong>\u00a0Uses time efficiently, foresees risks and allows for contingencies when planning, monitors and adjusts plans and actions as necessary to ensure tasks are completed.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Client orientation:<\/strong>\u00a0Considers all those to whom services are provided to be \u2018clients\u2019 and seeks to understand and reflect the clients\u2019 points of view in their work.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Qualifications and experience<\/strong><\/h4>\n<p><strong>Education<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>To qualify for the Graduate Professional programme, applicants must meet one of the following requirements:<\/p>\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Be enrolled in a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher); or<\/li>\n<li>Have graduated with a university degree (second university degree, as defined above) and, if selected, must commence the Graduate Professional programme within a two-year period of graduation.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Preference will be given to applicants with post-graduate degree qualifications relevant to UNIDIR\u2019s work, for instance in the fields of international relations, political science, international law and\/or international security.<\/p>\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Work experience<\/strong><\/h4>\n<p>For this position, applicants:<\/p>\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Are not required to have professional work experience for participation in the programme, but demonstrated research experience and interest in AI, emerging technologies, international peace and security, disarmament and the work of the UN will be considered an asset;<\/li>\n<li>Shall be computer literate in standard software applications;<\/li>\n<li>Have a demonstrated keen interest in the work of the UN and have a personal commitment to the ideals of the Charter; and<\/li>\n<li>Have a demonstrated ability to successfully interact with individuals of different cultural backgrounds and beliefs, which includes willingness to understand and be tolerant of differing opinions and views.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Languages<\/h4>\n<p>For the position advertised, fluency in English (both oral and written) is required.
