At this time, all sessions will be held in person on site at our Atlanta campus. Fall and spring sessions are 15 weeks long with a stipend of $5,100; our summer session is\u00a010 weeks long with a stipend of $3,400. Interns work 20 hours per week.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>There are no citizenship requirements for interns. However, all applicants must be authorized to work in the United States. International students enrolled in U.S.-based colleges or universities are eligible with approval from your host institution.<\/p>\n<p>If you are not a U.S. citizen and unsure if you are authorized to intern in the United States, please email\u00a0<a href=\"mailto:EducationalPrograms@CarterCenter.org.\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">EducationalPrograms@CarterCenter.org<\/a>\u00a0to check eligibility.<\/p>\n<p>Internships are available through a number of programs and offices within three broad areas of The Carter Center.<\/p>\n<h4 data-start=\"1575\" data-end=\"1597\">1. Peace Programs<\/h4>\n<p data-start=\"1599\" data-end=\"1888\">The Carter Center\u2019s peace initiatives work to promote human rights, resolve conflicts, and support democratic governance around the world. Interns placed in peace programs may support research, program development, data analysis, and event coordination in one of the following departments:<\/p>\n<ul data-start=\"1890\" data-end=\"2714\">\n<li data-start=\"1890\" data-end=\"1996\">\n<p data-start=\"1892\" data-end=\"1996\"><strong data-start=\"1892\" data-end=\"1907\">China Focus<\/strong>: Examines U.S.-China relations and supports understanding through research and dialogue.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li data-start=\"1997\" data-end=\"2091\">\n<p data-start=\"1999\" data-end=\"2091\"><strong data-start=\"1999\" data-end=\"2030\">Conflict Resolution Program<\/strong>: Works on mediation, negotiation, and peacebuilding efforts.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li data-start=\"2092\" data-end=\"2192\">\n<p data-start=\"2094\" data-end=\"2192\"><strong data-start=\"2094\" data-end=\"2115\">Democracy Program<\/strong>: Assists with election observation and democratic institution strengthening.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li data-start=\"2193\" data-end=\"2286\">\n<p data-start=\"2195\" data-end=\"2286\"><strong data-start=\"2195\" data-end=\"2219\">Human Rights Program<\/strong>: Supports advocacy and programming to advance global human rights.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li data-start=\"2287\" data-end=\"2394\">\n<p data-start=\"2289\" data-end=\"2394\"><strong data-start=\"2289\" data-end=\"2322\">Inform Women, Transform Lives<\/strong>: Promotes women\u2019s access to public information and civic participation.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li data-start=\"2395\" data-end=\"2499\">\n<p data-start=\"2397\" data-end=\"2499\"><strong data-start=\"2397\" data-end=\"2438\">Latin America and the Caribbean Focus<\/strong>: Engages with political and social challenges in the region.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li data-start=\"2500\" data-end=\"2609\">\n<p data-start=\"2502\" data-end=\"2609\"><strong data-start=\"2502\" data-end=\"2552\">Office of the Vice President of Peace Programs<\/strong>: Provides strategic insight and executive-level support.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li data-start=\"2610\" data-end=\"2714\">\n<p data-start=\"2612\" data-end=\"2714\"><strong data-start=\"2612\" data-end=\"2635\">Rule of Law Program<\/strong>: Strengthens access to justice and legal frameworks in transitional societies.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h4 data-start=\"2716\" data-end=\"2739\">2. Health Programs<\/h4>\n<p data-start=\"2741\" data-end=\"3001\">The Carter Center\u2019s health division is internationally recognized for its pioneering work in disease eradication and mental health advocacy. Operations<\/h4>\n<p data-start=\"3368\" data-end=\"3699\">Behind every successful mission lies an effective support system. Interns in the operational departments of the Carter Center play a crucial role in ensuring smooth implementation of programs. These placements are ideal for students interested in nonprofit management, communications, human resources, or technology. Areas include:<\/p>\n<ul data-start=\"3701\" data-end=\"4442\">\n<li data-start=\"3701\" data-end=\"3803\">\n<p data-start=\"3703\" data-end=\"3803\"><strong data-start=\"3703\" data-end=\"3721\">Communications<\/strong>: Involves public relations, social media, content development, and press support.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li data-start=\"3804\" data-end=\"3898\">\n<p data-start=\"3806\" data-end=\"3898\"><strong data-start=\"3806\" data-end=\"3821\">Development<\/strong>: Assists in donor outreach, fundraising campaigns, and proposal development.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li data-start=\"3899\" data-end=\"4002\">\n<p data-start=\"3901\" data-end=\"4002\"><strong data-start=\"3901\" data-end=\"3925\">Educational Programs<\/strong>: Supports internship coordination, educational outreach, and event planning.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li data-start=\"4003\" data-end=\"4128\">\n<p data-start=\"4005\" data-end=\"4128\"><strong data-start=\"4005\" data-end=\"4055\">Human Resources (People Operations &amp; Programs)<\/strong>: Helps manage hiring, intern onboarding, and organizational development.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li data-start=\"4129\" data-end=\"4227\">\n<p data-start=\"4131\" data-end=\"4227\"><strong data-start=\"4131\" data-end=\"4157\">Information Technology<\/strong>: Provides tech support, system maintenance, and innovation solutions.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li data-start=\"4228\" data-end=\"4332\">\n<p data-start=\"4230\" data-end=\"4332\"><strong data-start=\"4230\" data-end=\"4267\">Strategy, Innovation and Learning<\/strong>: Focuses on organizational effectiveness and impact measurement.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li data-start=\"4333\" data-end=\"4442\">\n<p data-start=\"4335\" data-end=\"4442\"><strong data-start=\"4335\" data-end=\"4372\">Volunteer Services\/Art Collection<\/strong>: Manages volunteers and maintains the Center\u2019s unique art collection.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3 data-start=\"4449\" data-end=\"4473\">Eligibility Criteria<\/h3>\n<p data-start=\"4475\" data-end=\"4529\">To be considered for the Fall 2025 Internship Program:<\/p>\n<ul data-start=\"4531\" data-end=\"5015\">\n<li data-start=\"4531\" data-end=\"4638\">\n<p data-start=\"4533\" data-end=\"4638\">Applicants must be currently enrolled in or recently graduated from an undergraduate or graduate program.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li data-start=\"4639\" data-end=\"4774\">\n<p data-start=\"4641\" data-end=\"4774\">International students must be enrolled in U.S.-based institutions and eligible to work in the U.S. with CPT, OPT, or similar status.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li data-start=\"4775\" data-end=\"4835\">\n<p data-start=\"4777\" data-end=\"4835\">A strong academic record (GPA of 3.0 or higher preferred).<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li data-start=\"4836\" data-end=\"4934\">\n<p data-start=\"4838\" data-end=\"4934\">Demonstrated interest in international affairs, public service, nonprofit work, or human rights.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li data-start=\"4935\" data-end=\"5015\">\n<p data-start=\"4937\" data-end=\"5015\">Willingness to commit to 20 hours per week for the duration of the internship.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p data-start=\"5017\" data-end=\"5297\">There are <strong data-start=\"5027\" data-end=\"5058\">no citizenship requirements<\/strong>, but visa or work authorization requirements apply.
