The Center for Studies in Higher Education (CSHE)<\/strong> invites applications from scholars and researchers worldwide to join our Visiting Scholars Program<\/strong>. This program provides a unique opportunity to conduct research related to higher education alongside leading experts at UC Berkeley<\/strong>.<\/p>\n We host Visiting Scholars for periods ranging from one to twelve months<\/strong>, offering a collaborative and intellectually rich environment. Our aim is to foster a diverse community of scholars who contribute global perspectives to higher education research, policy, and practice.<\/p>\n We welcome applicants from around the world whose work aligns with the areas of expertise of CSHE faculty affiliates<\/strong>, and who demonstrate a clear need to be based at CSHE and UC Berkeley. There are three categories of scholars:<\/p>\n Senior Visiting Scholars<\/strong> \u2013 Hold a Ph.D. earned more than five years ago<\/p>\n<\/li>\n Visiting Doctoral Researchers<\/strong> \u2013 Ph.D. candidates who have advanced to candidacy<\/p>\n<\/li>\n Postdoctoral Scholar Employees<\/strong> \u2013 Ph.D. completed within the last five years (2-year minimum appointment and external salary funding required)<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n Applicants must:<\/p>\n Focus on research related to higher education<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/li>\n Clearly articulate why UC Berkeley\/CSHE is integral to their project<\/p>\n<\/li>\n Align their research with one of CSHE\u2019s faculty affiliates<\/p>\n<\/li>\n Demonstrate advanced English proficiency<\/strong> (for J-1 visa eligibility)<\/p>\n<\/li>\n Commit to a minimum one-month residence<\/strong> at UC Berkeley<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n Work with a CSHE-affiliated researcher as your sponsor and mentor<\/p>\n<\/li>\n Participate in seminars, lectures, and the Center\u2019s scholarly community<\/p>\n<\/li>\n Access to UC Berkeley\u2019s libraries, digital resources, and shared office space (for stays over one month)<\/p>\n<\/li>\n Deliver a final research presentation<\/strong> and submit a paper to CSHE\u2019s Research and Occasional Papers Series (ROPS)<\/em><\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n Fall Semester (Aug 15 \u2013 Dec 20)<\/strong>: Apply by February 15<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/li>\n Spring Semester (Jan 5 \u2013 May 15)<\/strong>: Apply by September 15<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n Early applications are strongly encouraged, especially for longer visits.<\/p>\n A complete application includes:<\/p>\n Cover Letter<\/strong><\/p>\n Proposed visit dates and length of stay<\/p>\n<\/li>\n Potential CSHE sponsor(s)<\/p>\n<\/li>\n How you learned about CSHE<\/p>\n<\/li>\n How affiliation supports your research and professional growth<\/p>\n<\/li>\n Funding sources<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n Curriculum Vitae<\/strong> (with publication list)<\/p>\n<\/li>\n 3\u20135 Page Research Proposal<\/strong><\/p>\n Project title, goals, timeline, and relevance to CSHE and UC Berkeley resources<\/p>\n<\/li>\n Suggested proposal outline<\/a><\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n Submit your application via email to: Selected scholars must:<\/p>\n Submit required university forms<\/p>\n<\/li>\n Pay non-refundable affiliation and visa fees<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/li>\n Provide proof of funding<\/strong> and health insurance<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/li>\n Undergo English proficiency verification (Zoom interview + documentation)<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n See full fee schedule and funding requirements<\/a>.<\/p>\n \n \n \n
