The Global Water and Climate Adaptation Centre (ABCD-Centre) is inviting applications for the 2026 cohort of the ABCD Future Environmental Leaders Scholarships. Research at the ABCD-Centre is organized into three thematic clusters:<\/p>\n
Water Security and Water Resources Management<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/li>\n Ecosystem Resilience and Nature-Based Adaptation<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/li>\n Transfer Strategies for Climate Adaptation and Local Knowledge Integration<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n The Centre trains future environmental leaders by supporting research that translates scientific findings into implementation and policy.<\/p>\n Two fully funded scholarships are available for the 2026 cycle. Each scholarship lasts nine months<\/strong>, with the research stay taking place in Germany from March 1, 2026, to November 30, 2026<\/strong>.<\/p>\n RWTH Aachen University<\/p>\n<\/li>\n Technische Universit\u00e4t Dresden<\/p>\n<\/li>\n UNU-FLORES in Dresden<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n Applicants must propose a research project aligned with the ABCD-Centre\u2019s clusters. Priority will be given to proposals addressing:<\/p>\n A) Modelling Water Infrastructure and Digital Solutions Applicants must:<\/p>\n Be citizens of a developing country<\/p>\n<\/li>\n Be currently enrolled as full-time doctoral students<\/p>\n<\/li>\n Have started their PhD no more than three years ago<\/p>\n<\/li>\n Demonstrate English proficiency and a strong academic track record<\/p>\n<\/li>\n Show readiness to reside in Germany for up to nine months<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n The ABCD Future Environmental Leaders Scholarship includes:<\/p>\n Monthly living and accommodation allowance:<\/strong> \u20ac1,200<\/p>\n<\/li>\n Monthly health insurance allowance:<\/strong> up to \u20ac105<\/p>\n<\/li>\n Travel stipend (one-time):<\/strong> up to \u20ac1,000<\/p>\n<\/li>\n Research support funds:<\/strong> up to \u20ac1,000 for materials and equipment<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n Applicants must compile all documents into a single PDF<\/strong> and send it to Personal motivation letter (2\u20133 pages)<\/p>\n<\/li>\n Sample of a written scientific paper<\/p>\n<\/li>\n Curriculum Vitae<\/p>\n<\/li>\n Two recommendation letters from the home institution<\/p>\n<\/li>\n Statement confirming ability to work online if needed<\/p>\n<\/li>\n Enrollment certificate and transcript of records (issued within the last six months)<\/p>\n<\/li>\n Passport copy<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n Additionally, supervisors and the home university must confirm:<\/p>\n Alignment of the research topic with ABCD clusters<\/p>\n<\/li>\n A timeline for the full doctoral research project<\/p>\n<\/li>\n A draft research plan for the stay in Germany<\/p>\n<\/li>\n Willingness to support outreach and dissemination activities<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n Selection is carried out by the ABCD-Centre Steering Committee.
