To this end, scholarships are granted for development-related Master or doctoral studies for individuals who plan to pursue a career in teaching and \/ or research at a higher education institution in Sub-Saharan Africa.<br \/>\nThe programme aims at university staff in the first line, without neglecting the public sector demand of academically trained personnel (more general background information about the programme can be found\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.daad.de\/en\/information-services-for-higher-education-institutions\/further-information-on-daad-programmes\/in-countryin-region-scholarship-programme-background-and-objectives\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">here<\/a>).<\/p>\n<h3>Who can apply?<\/h3>\n<p>Graduates and postgraduates from Sub-Saharan Africa with a first academic degree if applying for a Master\u2019s programme, or with a Master\u2019s degree if applying for a doctoral programme who want to pursue Master\u2019s or PhD courses in their home country or in the country for which they have a residence permit (so called In-Country scholarships) or in another Sub-Saharan African country, outside their home country\/in the country for which they do not have a residence permit (so called In-Region scholarships).<br \/>\nFemale applicants and candidates from less privileged regions or groups are especially encouraged to participate in the programme.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Please note<\/strong>\u00a0that In-Country scholarships\u00a0<strong>for students from South Africa<\/strong>\u00a0are administrated by a cooperation between\u00a0<strong>DAAD and NRF<\/strong>\u00a0in a separate\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www2.daad.de\/deutschland\/stipendium\/datenbank\/en\/21148-scholarship-database\/?status=&amp;origin=&amp;subjectGrps=&amp;daad=&amp;intention=&amp;q=nrf&amp;page=1&amp;detail=10000279\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">call for applications and a separate deadline<\/a>.<\/p>\n<h3>What is supported?<\/h3>\n<p>Master and PhD studies in selected, development-related degree programmes<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div id=\"ueberblick\" class=\"tab-pane active\">\n<h3>Duration of funding<\/h3>\n<p>Funding is provided for the usual duration of a course \u2013 generally, up to two years for Master&#8217;s and up to three years for the PhD degree programmes.<\/p>\n<h3>Value<\/h3>\n<p>Generally:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Monthly scholarship<\/li>\n<li>Study and research allowance<\/li>\n<li>Thesis publishing costs<\/li>\n<li>Tuition fees<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Only applicable for In-Region scholarship holders:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Travel allowance<\/li>\n<li>Health insurance<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>For further information, in particular the respective amounts, please see the call for applications of the degree programme you wish to apply for.<\/p>\n<h3>Selection<\/h3>\n<p>The selection process differs between the individual degree programmes.
