The National University of Ireland (NUI)<\/strong> has announced the opening of applications for the 2025 Scholarly Publication Grants<\/strong>, offering financial support of up to \u20ac3,000<\/strong> to help scholars publish their research. This initiative aims to promote high-quality academic work by current and retired NUI staff as well as early career academics (ECAs) across NUI member institutions.<\/p>\n

Applications for the second 2025 call<\/strong> are due by 1 December 2025<\/strong>, with grants available for various types of scholarly publications, including books, journal articles, edited collections, and even audio-visual productions.<\/p>\n

Supporting Academic Excellence<\/h3>\n

The NUI Grants toward Scholarly Publication<\/strong> were created to reduce financial barriers to academic publishing and to promote the dissemination of high-impact research. These grants are not intended to cover full publication costs but to contribute significantly toward them, ensuring that financial constraints do not hinder academic progress.<\/p>\n

Each year, approximately \u20ac20,000<\/strong> is allocated to support selected applicants, with individual grants capped at \u20ac3,000<\/strong>. For journals hosted or edited within NUI institutions, smaller grants of up to \u20ac2,000<\/strong> are also available.<\/p>\n

A key objective of the scheme is to support early career academics<\/strong>, providing them with opportunities to publish and gain recognition in their fields. The NUI Senate gives priority to applications from emerging scholars who have completed their doctoral degrees within the past five years.<\/p>\n

\n

Who Is Eligible?<\/h3>\n

To apply for the NUI Scholarly Publication Grants<\/strong>, applicants must fall into one of the following categories at the time of application:<\/p>\n

  1. \n

    NUI staff members<\/strong>, including full-time, part-time, and post-doctoral fellows.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n

  2. \n

    Retired staff members<\/strong> of NUI institutions.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n

  3. \n

    Early Career Academics (ECAs)<\/strong> who hold a doctoral degree from an NUI institution awarded within the last five years, even if they are not currently employed in higher education.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

    If a publication has multiple authors, at least one must meet the above criteria and have made a substantial contribution to the work.<\/p>\n
