With global academic freedom under pressure from limited mobility to cancelled funding, the fellowship provides a safe and supportive research environment within three leading German institutions:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Zukunftskolleg Konstanz (ZuKo)<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Freiburg Institute for Advanced Studies (FRIAS)<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>T\u00fcbingen College of Fellows (CoF)<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Funded by the\u00a0<strong>State of Baden-W\u00fcrttemberg<\/strong>, this programme offers rescued early-career researchers two years of secure employment, academic freedom, advanced research infrastructure, and strong interdisciplinary networks at one of three renowned universities.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Application Deadline: 9 January 2026, 11:00 AM CET<\/strong><\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p><strong>Eligibility Criteria<\/strong><\/p>\n<ol>\n<li><strong> Formal Eligibility Requirements<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>Applicants must meet all the following conditions:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Hold a\u00a0<strong>completed doctoral degree<\/strong>\u00a0plus\u00a0<strong>1\u20137 years of postdoctoral experience<\/strong>.<br \/>\n<em>Career breaks for family, medical reasons or non-academic employment are not counted.<\/em><\/li>\n<li>Must\u00a0<strong>not<\/strong>\u00a0hold a permanent professorship (tenure).<\/li>\n<li>Provide a\u00a0<strong>motivation letter<\/strong>\u00a0explaining how their research is threatened by political restrictions in the USA.<\/li>\n<li>Provide\u00a0<strong>proof of inability<\/strong>\u00a0to conduct research in the USA due to:\n<ul>\n<li>Travel restrictions<\/li>\n<li>Cancelled funding<\/li>\n<li>Cancelled projects or appointments in 2025 or 2026<br \/>\nOR<\/li>\n<li>A referee letter confirming political threats to their research.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>Select their\u00a0<strong>first and second choice<\/strong>\u00a0of host university and Institute for Advanced Studies, each with one potential local host.<\/li>\n<li>Submit a research project that can be supported at\u00a0<strong>University of Konstanz<\/strong>,\u00a0<strong>University of Freiburg<\/strong>, or\u00a0<strong>University of T\u00fcbingen<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li>The project must\u00a0<strong>not<\/strong>\u00a0involve disallowed ethical areas.<\/li>\n<li>Must follow all page limits and formatting rules.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Incomplete or late applications will not be considered.<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ol start=\"2\">\n<li><strong> Academic Quality Requirements<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<ul>\n<li>Minimum of\u00a0<strong>3 peer-reviewed publications<\/strong>\u00a0(monographs count as 3; edited volumes do not count).<\/li>\n<li>Accepted-but-not-yet-published papers must include proof of acceptance.<\/li>\n<li>Manuscripts not accepted before the deadline, textbooks, reviews, translations, and editorial works are not eligible.<\/li>\n<li>Proposed research must demonstrate\u00a0<strong>international relevance<\/strong>, not only local impact.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ol start=\"3\">\n<li><strong> Ethical Restrictions<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>Projects involving the following\u00a0<strong>cannot<\/strong>\u00a0be funded:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Human cloning for reproductive purposes<\/li>\n<li>Heritable genetic modification<\/li>\n<li>Creation of human embryos solely for research<\/li>\n<li>Research causing the death of human embryos<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Projects must fully comply with research integrity and ethical guidelines.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p><strong>What the Fellowship Offers<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Selected researchers receive:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>A\u00a0<strong>24-month employment contract<\/strong>\u00a0at one of the participating universities (start between 1 July 2026 and 30 November 2028).<\/li>\n<li>Monthly salary\u00a0<strong>up to approx. \u20ac6,000 (pre-tax)<\/strong>, depending on experience and TV-L regulations.<\/li>\n<li>A\u00a0<strong>24-month residency<\/strong>\u00a0at one of the three Institutes for Advanced Studies.<\/li>\n<li>Full research infrastructure, workplace, and academic environment.<\/li>\n<li>Support for implementing the research project, including access to laboratories if needed.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Additional research funding<\/strong>, cooperation support, and mobility allowance.<\/li>\n<li>Coverage for\u00a0<strong>inbound and outbound travel<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li>Assistance with academic skills, local networks, and German language courses.<\/li>\n<li>Support for families and help finding accommodation.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><em>Note: All funding is subject to budget confirmation by the Baden-W\u00fcrttemberg Ministry of Science, Research and Arts.<\/em><\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p><strong>Application Materials<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Applications must be submitted\u00a0<strong>exclusively through the BITE online portal<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Application Portal:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Apply via BITE here:<\/strong>\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/stellen.uni-konstanz.de\/en\/jobposting\/49107de82c5345b8901d8d70d5006a9c3a1a59b50\/apply\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><em>APPLICATION FORM<\/em><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Applicants must upload\u00a0<strong>one PDF<\/strong>\u00a0containing all documents (with a table of contents).
